Description
In this guitar lesson, you’ll learn how to play a very simple (yet powerful) rhythm and lead to accompany a piano. Sometimes playing along with another single instrument can be very challenging. It can be natural to want to play over them as opposed to play with them and create something melodic together. Just remember to keep it simple. This lesson is for both beginner and intermediate players and can be done on acoustic or electric guitar.

Love your lessons, Brian. I used to hop around to a lot of lesson sites and move on before learning whole songs. Your songs I learn all the way through. Great styles. Great variety. Great teaching.

I was really enjoying your “slow walk through” feature on the last few lessons. As helpful as the complete lesson is to start, it’s good to just have a quick reference after that. Thanks.

I feel like I wasted money on some of the other sites. I keep coming back to your lessons and get so much out of them thanks again

Beautiful beautiful piece.

Beautiful. A few lessons back you mentioned how having to break stuff down into teachable and playable chunks took some of the soul out as opposed to playing live. Not so much with this one. It’d be really nice if you posted some vids of you just playing for fun/with a band on the site.

I brought my wife in to listen, she sat down at the keyboard and we are muddling through.
Would be great Brianif you could type out the keyboard notes. We always struggle to play together. This one is doable and beautiful too.

What a lovely piece of music…. it would be even greater /in my opinion/ if it were longer. We have a grand piano and it is going to sound magnificent /I hope 🙂
So….. while we are working on this piece, we will be patiently waiting for PART II.

I have to agree with fellow follower, Mr Caudle - I have checked out (and spent more money than I can tell my wife!) on these “Learn to play the guitar in a day” site. Active Melody beats them all by a mile.
All your hard work is appreciated.
Thanks.
P.S. Part II has my vote as well.

Brian, my wife is learning piano as I learn guitar and it would be great if you could write out the music for the backing track.

This tune almost has it all! Great to listen to, slow for learning, some strumming, hybrid picking, slides, hammer-ons, rhythm practice, jam practice. My what a great one to start with. Just wish there was a second part to make it a bit longer. Love it!!!

Love this one. Reminds me of my favorite guitar players, Kohala from the Big Island. Ideally, with your help Brian, I’ll be creating melodies over jazzy arrangements like EP052 and this jewel from Kohala. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBGd9YZxEzA

Hi Brian,
I joined as a premium member last August and let me re-iterate what other members have said: you are doing an awesome job with these lessons! My background is a little bit of classical guitar lessons when young, and off and on noodling ever since. Your lessons have really gotten me inspired to work to get my chops advanced to the next level. I am currently playing a nylon string, so I would also add my vote to more acoustic pieces, especially those where you mix rhythm and lead parts.
One of my challenges is hitting the rhythm correctly and I appreciate the tools that you provide in the form of the jam tracks. The tabs are also very helpful, but I think you have a problem with the tab in this lesson, EP052. Measure 1 shows three 1/8 notes of G chord, followed by one 1/4 note of C chord. That is 2 and 1/2 beats. The measure is finished by one 1/8 rest. That gives only 3 beats to the measure for a song that is in 4/4 time. This would be fixed by replacing the 1/8 rest with a dotted 1/4 rest.
Anyway, kudos and keep up the awesome lessons. Opening a new lesson is one of the highlights of the week.
One other thing: I am considering to buy an electric guitar, because I would like to learn to play the blues. I would be happy to hear what guitars you would recommend for a first (modestly prices) electric guitar.d
